Don’t Be Afraid

By Rachel Williamson

Children are wrapped in blankets almost from the moment they are born to protect them from the cold and to make them feel safe. As children grow, they continue to see blankets as providing protection from the things they fear. Whether they are scared of spiders, the dark, or thunder storms, curling up in a blanket can make all of those fears go away. To children, blankets are a shield just as effective as those used by knights or superheroes. As adults we realize a blanket isn’t a shield and it can’t protect us from our fears, but for many of us blankets still represent relaxation and stress relief. Getting cozy with a blanket can be a much needed escape from the stresses of our lives.
