There Are Not Enough Words

Julia Coffman

I often find it hard to express myself when talking. My throat tends to do funny things of its own volition. And my brain can never seem to find the adequate words to express what I am experiencing, even though from grade school and beyond I have been learning multitudes of words to do just that.

Words sometimes fall short.

But art.

Art gives me the words. In the moments where I cannot not find adequate words, the process of visualizing and making gives me the gift of expression; in string, in pigment, in fabric. Art gives me the words in color, in texture, in shape.

This body of art has given me a space to explore, feel, and think about emotions. In exhibiting this art, I give you a space to also explore and think about emotions. But more than that, the art creates safe spaces to feel emotions, to process experiences, and to release them when needed. Let the experience of this art help you create spaces for your own circumstances.
