For April\, the talk will center on Alexander Calder’s Sun\, a tapestry made in 1974. Calder was a leading figure in the modernist art movement of the early and mid-twentieth century known for his kinetic sculptures and emphasis on simplified forms and design. The tapestry in our collection is a rare example of how Calder explored those ideas in fiber art and textiles. \n“Discoveries” tours begin at 11:00 in the Dimitrie Berea Gallery on the second floor of the Rogers-Traylor Art Building on select Fridays during the academic year.
