Seed Sculptures: Ceramics Workshop with Rachel Eng

Led by visiting artist Rachel Eng, participants in this this hands-on workshop will create small sculptures made from clay local to Berea, Kentucky. The clay sculptures we create will be embedded with purple coneflower (echinacea) seeds and some potting soil. Left unfired, participants can find a new home for their sculpture outside, in a garden, or pot for the flowers to grow. Seed balls were historically used for seed preservation and planting in semi-arid or flood-damaged lands. Japanese farmer Masanobu Fukuoka continued this practice in the early 20th century. Beginner friendly – no experience required.
The workshop is free and open to the public and guests of all ages. Space is limited! Please RSVP by emailing your name and number of attendees in your group to Dr. Kelsey Malone (malonek2@berea.edu). There is potential to make some mess, so wear clothing you don’t mind getting a bit dirty.
