The inspiration for this piece is from a Vietnamese folk poetry called Con cò mà đi ăn đêm. Con cò, in this story, is a stork who went searching for food at night. As many of us know, storks don’t go out at night. However, the poetry emphasizes the endurance and patients of a Vietnamese people. There are many interpretations of the stork’s representation; yet, all represent the working class in society as they spend days and night looking for food to feed their family. Despite the lack of wealth in their life, these working-class citizens/ farmers remain at peace in their minds. Even during difficulties, as portrayed in the piece, it speaks to the Vietnamese teaching of whether hungry, suffering, or experiencing hardship, one must know to keep a good personality, live upright, and live clean.
