These paintings are my perception of girlhood. Inspired by my own childhood growing up with several sisters, this work shows how the journey of girlhood is filled with both enchanting moments of discovery and defining obstacles. I appreciate the beauty of this complexity, and I paint what it feels like for me as a girl. This includes collage-like images of content I associate with growing up, such as a moment from the movie Mamma Mia! because it is something my sisters and I bonded over, as well as art historical references that connect to who I am today. I acknowledge that my art depicts some of the stereotypes of women; however, I appreciate all the glitter and fun through a woman’s gaze rather than a man’s.
Ultimately, my art is a tribute to the indominable spirit of women – a testament to our beauty, power, and resilience.
