This body of work focuses on a duck that rides a bright pink Pennyboard and wears a University of Michigan hat, a portrayal of myself as commonly seen around campus. The text that is cut into the image consists of journal entries made over the course of this school-year that encompass a wide range of racing thoughts, emotions, and experiences as a Berea College student. Inspired by comic books, the bright and bold hues create a sense of childhood nostalgia. Like comic books, this work incorporates a humorous image to lighten the weight of an underlying message. This work allows me to celebrate growing up while simultaneously embracing my inner child through playful visuals and continual self-reflection through the catharsis of journaling.
